A First Look At Royal Caribbean's Latest Vessel - Odyssey of the Seas

Written By:
October 30, 2019

With 2020 just around the corner, Royal Caribbean is excited to announce their 27th vessel to the fleet and, with it being the first to kick-start the highly anticipated Quantum-Ultra Class, everybody is excited to see what ground-breaking features she will provide. The new vessel will merge both Quantum and Oasis-class features into one and create one of the most action-packed top decks at sea.

So, if you aren’t excited already, here are a few of the things you can expect from Royal Caribbean’s latest ship when it sails out of Fort Lauderdale in November 2020.

ACTIVITIES

SeaPlex

Bringing back the old features and adding in the new, Odyssey will be packed with a ton of unique activities that bring out the adventurer in everyone. The biggest change will involve the fan-favourite SeaPlex, the largest indoor activity space at sea. The most interactive arcade will dominate the top floor, with extra space for solo and competitive VR games and augmented reality walls and floors creating a brand new space for families to enjoy. The bottom floor will remain the same multi-use centre with options including bumper cars, trapezes and glow-in-the-dark laser tag.

The SeaPlex isn’t the only signature Royal Caribbean feature that can be found on the top deck; there are other activities like the Flowrider Surf Simulator, RipCord by iFly and the colossal 40-foot climbing wall. The Trampoline VR system SkyPad has also been re-introduced, along with The North Star that takes guests up to 300-feet above sea level for 360-degree views of the stunning scenery.

Odyssey of the Seas will also offer a two-level pool deck fitted with a variety of options to kick back and relax or hop into the action with two open-air style pools and four whirlpools. Both floors will also be accompanied by a selection of dining options to keep guests refreshed during their sailing.

DINING

Izumi

Odyssey of the Seas wants to take its guests on a culinary journey, visiting some of the world’s most exotic, foodie destinations and creating new-found blends along the way. Kicking off the new venues, Royal Caribbean welcomes ‘Teppanyaki’ to North America for the first time. This authentic Japanese dining room serves a variety of traditional dishes that are handcrafted right in front of your very own eyes. Second in the line-up is the signature Italian kitchen, Giovanni’s, offering an array of world-famous Italian foods that include oven-baked pizzas, mouth-watering carbonaras and a helping of tiramisu to top it all off.

To complement the new dining venues, there are some Royal Caribbean classics, including Izumi, Chops Grille steakhouse, Chef’s Table and Wonderland.

ITINERARIES

Bangkok

As mentioned before, Odyssey of the Seas will start her inaugural season in 2020, sailing from Fort Lauderdale. She will then sail the Caribbean, visiting well-known ports like Curacao, Aruba, Grand Cayman and Mexico on short six to eight-night sailings. The next year will take her across the Atlantic, where she will sail from her new homeport in Rome throughout 2021 – the first time her class enters European waters. From there, guests can get excited for more stunning destinations, including a plethora of World Heritage Sites in Turkey and Greece.

Although Odyssey of the Seas might not take the crown for being the largest vessel at sea, what she lacks in record-breaking size, she more than makes up for in experiences.
