Cruise Ship Renovations and Steel-Cutting Ahead of Celebrity Cruises

Written By:
February 12, 2020

Following the recent announcement of their partnership with goop and newest vessel, Celebrity Apex, Celebrity Cruises has been very busy in booking up their new sailings. But, as well as offering these new itineraries, the cruise line is planning to update their existing vessels and commence construction on their third Edge Class ship.

So here are some of the new changes coming to Celebrity Cruises in the next two years.

STEEL-CUTTING OF CELEBRITY BEYOND

Although it’s early days to start discussing Celebrity Cruises’ latest vessel, Celebrity Beyond has now been named as the third (out of four) Edge Class ship. On 29th January 2020 at STX France, a renowned shipyard that built both Celebrity Edge and Apex, the first steel was cut to mark the beginning of this almost two-year-long project. Celebrity Beyond will enter service in the winter months of 2021 and is likely to be as popular as the last two vessels.

With the success of Celebrity Edge and excitement around Celebrity Apex (which will sail on 30th March 2020), the converted magic carpet will most likely be featured on board.

RENOVATIONS ACROSS THE FLEET

Bangkok

With all these new vessels following year after year, you may be wondering what is happening amongst the existing Celebrity Cruises fleet. A colossal $600 million is being spent revamping the current fleet, as well as conceiving new features that will debut on Celebrity Apex. These new additions include taking features like the retreat and new-look cabins from fan-favourite Celebrity Edge and bringing them on board other ships.

One of the newest features to be added to Celebrity Edge and Celebrity Silhouette is the new craft-concept bar, set to debut on Celebrity Apex. Silhouette is currently undergoing its revitalisation and will return to sailing in the UK for the second season in April.

THE LATEST VESSEL TO ARRIVE

As well as all the changes that are happening in the fleet over the next two years, there are only a couple of weeks to wait until the inaugural sailing of Celebrity Apex. Following on from its game-changing sister ship Celebrity Edge, this new vessel wants to take the market by storm with brand new dining options and bar setups that have never been seen on board a Celebrity Cruises vessel.

The newest addition is the Craft Social Bar, a chic modern venue that offers a selection of the best wines, cocktails and more than 50 of the world’s craft beers that will all be served by a certified beer sommelier. Along with an array of alcoholic beverages, the bar will boast various comfort foods from mac and brie to Kobe beef sliders and crispy chicken sliders, just to name a few.

A new vessel usually means new entertainment and this is no different for Celebrity Apex. Three new shows have already been announced for ‘The Theatre’, which will already boast a 23-foot-tall 4K LED screen, along with an alternate cabaret show in the cosy The Club venue. The first show to be featured is ‘Rockumentary’, taking cruisers back through the ages of rock and giving them a chance to vote on their favourite bands. Also, ‘Tree of Life’ is an adventure through life’s most relatable moments, including famous pop music and a 20-foot-tall tree.

These are just a few of the things you can expect from Celebrity Cruises’ latest vessel.
