Cruise the South African Coast with Azamara

Written By:

Cruising the coast of South Africa is a special experience, and Azamara’s small ships, and destination immersive itineraries, are a great way to do it. Their three boutique style ships each carry just over 700 passengers, and many things are included in the cost of your cruise. I give further details below of the 2020, 2021 and 2022 itineraries, but just a short note about why there is a special place in my heart for cruising the South African coast.

In December 1971, aged just 16, I went to sea as a bell boy with Union Castle Line, working on the Pendennis Castle. I made 8 round trips from Southampton in just over a year, calling at Las Palmas, Madeira, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, East London, Durban, East London, Port Elizabeth, Cape Town, Madeira, Las Palmas and back to Southampton. Then in February 2016 I went back to Cape Town for the first time since December 1972, and had an amazing holiday with my wife. Further down the page you can see two views of Cape Town Harbour I took from the top of Table Mountain, one in 1972 and one in 2016, as well as two videos I made when I visited Cape Town in 2016. Who knows, maybe I will cruise the South African Coast again in the future, so that I can revisit Port Elizabeth, East London and Durban, some 50 years since the last time.

For more details of any of the Azamara cruises listed below, or indeed any other cruise or escorted tour, just call GoCruise with Ian on 08002922850 or 01455821770, or send me an email.
