Iconic Features Exclusive To Each Cruise Line

Written By:
May 14, 2019

With the cruising world becoming ever-more popular, it’s only right that ships are fitted with the latest facilities and activities to keep cruisers satisfied. Guests who sail on larger vessels have come to expect double-digit dining options, an array of shows and multiple activities to keep them entertained during their sailing. While, smaller-ship cruisers tend to prefer the intimate experiences and quieter ports of call.

But sometimes cruise lines branch out into uncharted territory to see if they can entice a new sector of the cruising market, whether this includes thrilling activities or just allowing them to bring their favourite four-legged friend.

CIRQUE DU SOLEIL – MSC CRUISES

As a newly formed partnership for MSC Cruises, Meraviglia class ships (MSC Meraviglia and MSC Bellissima) now feature Cirque du Soleil at Sea. Included in the partnership are eight brand new shows created exclusively for the (soon to be) four Meraviglia class ships, running two shows a night for six nights.

The two brand new shows featured on Merviglia are the auditory adventure ‘Sonor’ and the story of a passionate and eccentric artist in ‘Viaggio’. Meanwhile, Bellissima will showcase the epic journey of ‘Syma’ and a futuristic twist on a traditional medieval tale in ‘Varélia’. Every show will be held inside the chic modern Carousel Lounge, which also serves dinner and an array of drinks.

RACE TRACK – NORWEGIAN CRUISE LINES

Bliss Track

It’s no secret that many of Norwegian Cruise Line’s latest liners (Norwegian Joy and Norwegian Bliss) come equipped with their fan-favourite race track at sea. Reaching speeds of nearly 30 miles per hour, families and friends can race against one another to see who’s the fastest at sea. Plus, with the two-story track being located on deck 19, you can experience some of the best views on board.

Cruisers who don’t want to race can spectate from a nearby booth and also get involved by giving their favourite racer a boost of speed. Finally, every go-kart is electrically charged, so they won’t disturb other cruisers, but still allow racers to get authentic racing sounds through their headrest.

RIPCORD BY IFLY – ROYAL CARIBBEAN

Ripcord

Ever wanted to experience what a skydive feels like without dropping from 12,500 feet? RipCord by iFly allows you to live the thrill of a skydive while in the safety of a vertical wind tunnel, where an instructor will take you through the basics of skydiving and how to control yourself through the air. The experience is ideal for families with kids over the age of three being able to take part. Be sure to pre-book via your cruise planner whenever you’re on board a Quantum or Quantum Plus class ship.

MAGIC CARPET – CELEBRITY CRUISES

Magic Carpet

With Monday being the first time that Celebrity Edge visited the UK, it was only right to add the newly introduced Magic Carpet to our list. Able to travel up and down 13 stories, this new central hub features plenty of seating, a bar and live music.

Plus, depending on its position, it can be used as an extension on any deck, serving as additional space for dining and an open-air continuation of the main pool area. Finally, the Magic Carpet can reach the bottom decks to allow travellers to get onto their tender boats for shore excursions and ports of call.

KENNELS - CUNARD

Dog and Cat

Currently the only ship that allows dogs and cats on board, Queen Mary 2 not only has specific kennels for your furry friend, but also a Kennel Master to ensure they will be in safe hands. However, they will have to board on one of three specific ports – Southampton, Hamburg or New York – and can only sail on transatlantic voyages. So, if you loathe the feeling of leaving your beloved canine at home, there’s no need to worry – you can bring them on board and see them every day.
