MS Westerdam Review

Written By:
Ian Warren
November 1, 2018

In November 2018 I visited Singapore for a few days courtesy of Seabourn, Holland America Line and the Singapore Tourist Board. While there I visited two ships in port and give details below of my time on board the MS Westerdam. My review below also includes a short video I produced, and a few photos. Click on the following links for my MS Westerdam photo album, and my videos of Singapore, my photos of Singapore, my review and video of Seabourn Encore, and my photos of the Seabourn Encore. For more information on any of these things, or to book your next cruise, please call GoCruise with Ian on 01455821770 or 08002922850.

Launched in 2004, the MS Westerdam is 81,800 gross tonnes and carries around 1,900 passengers. There are 30 grades of inside, outside and balcony cabins, and suites. These range in size from an inside cabin at 151 sq ft, up to the Pinnacle Suite, which is 1,290 sq ft including the balcony. There are 27 wheelchair accessible cabins and suites. As you wander around the public rooms onboard, you would find it hard to believe that she is 14 years old, as everything is so pristine.

The dining options which are included in the price your cruise include The Dining Room, Lido Market, Dive In and 24 hour in-room-dining. For a supplement you can eat at speciality dining venues such as Pinnacle Grill, Canaletto and Explorations Café. We were lucky and enjoyed a wonderful lunch in the Pinnacle Grill.

There is an excellent choice of bars and lounges onboard, including Crow’s Nest, Explorers Lounge, Gallery Bar, Pinnacle Bar, Lido Bar, Sea View Bar and the Ocean Bar. If you are looking for entertainment, venues include The Mainstage, Billboard Onboard, BB King’s Blues Club, Lincoln Centre Stage, Music Walk, America’s Test Kitchen and the Casino.

Also onboard you will find a well-equipped fitness room, the Greenhouse Spa and Salon, and the Digital Workshop. For younger cruisers there is Club Hal, which has a wide range of activities for children aged 3 to 17, supervised by professionally trained staff. Registration is required for children under 13.

Other ships in the Holland America Line (aka HAL) fleet are ms Amsterdam, ms Eurodam (Signature Class), ms Koningsdam (Pinnacle Class), ms Maasdam, ms Nieuw Amsterdam (Signature Class), ms Nieuw Statendam (Pinnacle Class), ms Noordam (Vista Class), ms Oosterdam (Vista Class), ms Prinsendam (leaves fleet in July 2019), ms Rotterdam, ms Veendam, ms Volendam, ms Westerdam (Vista Class), ms Zaandam, and ms Zuiderdam (Vista Class).
