Seven Alternative Tourist Destinations

Written By:
March 26, 2021

Caught the Caribbean? Mingled in the Mediterranean? Eaten exotic delights in Asia?

Not sure where to go on your next travels or just fancy visiting somewhere a bit different?

We've come up with a list of seven alternative destinations and venues worth visiting from around the world which will shock, amaze and excite.

Burj Khalifa – Dubai

Having opened in 2010 and with the appearance of several stacks of coins - the Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world.

This building is well worth visiting and even has observation decks on the 124th and 148th floors; along with a television mast, offices, business suites and a hotel.

At a staggering 2,722 feet tall and with 163 floors; this tower is a record breaker in many respects and dominates the horizon.

Bubble Gum Wall – Seattle

Finished with your chewing gum but want to avoid sticking it under the table or throwing it onto the ground?

Seattle has an answer to this problem with a designated "gum wall" where people can stick their finished and flavourless gum to an ever growing feature.

You may be able to catch a bite to eat in the Big Apple, leave your heart in San Francisco and now you can leave a small trace of your DNA in Seattle as well.

Floating Market – Vietnam

Vietnam Floating Market Food

In Vietnam and across Far East Asia; you will experience a sense of culinary culture unlike anywhere else on earth.

The floating markets in the Mekong river are sentiment to this and contribute to one of Vietnam's most popular tourist destinations.

Exotic fruit and vegetables are available in abundance and well worth trying; but you will find much more than a market here with floating restaurants, bars, merchants and even gas stations on the Mekong.

Giants Causeway - Northern Ireland

The strange and seemingly well organised hexagonal stacks may seem baffling at first; but these stacks are actually 40,000 columns of basalt which make up Giants Causeway.

Volcanic activity 50 - 60 million years ago in Antrim formed a lava plateau and as the lava cooled, it contracted horizontally in a similar way to mud.

After the cracks had fully formed; a series of solidified columns remained and the varying sizes indicate how long a period of time each particular patch of lava had taken to cool.

Glass Beach - California

Years of waste tradition which involved rubbish being thrown over the cliffs and into the sea below has created a beautiful, glistening glass beach near Fort Bragg.

A clean up operation which lasted several years managed to clear most of the rubbish; but small pieces of green, amber, blue and transparent smoothed glass and pottery remain today.

Many people have decided to take glass home with them over the years; but there are still plenty of decent size pieces and this is a rare example of how something shameful can in fact become something beautiful.

Great Blue Hole - Belize

Whilst sailing or cruising along the coast of Belize, you will be able to admire the crystal clear waters... Until the water below turns a deep, dark blue.

This is the Great Blue Hole; located 50 miles east of Belize City and is easily visible when flying overhead.

There are in fact several blue holes visible off the coast of Belize but the Great Blue Hole is the largest; measuring about 1,000 feet across and 412 feet deep - making it a popular spot for diving.

Underwater Restaurant – Maldives

Fish Underwater Marine Sea

This truly unique experience is located 16 feet below sea level at the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island and features a dome glass window to provide amazing under water views.

The Ithaa Under Sea restaurant at the Hilton resort allows diners to be surrounded by the sea life whilst they eat and drink.

With only enough space for 12 seats, though, be sure to book to avoid disappointment.
