Virgin Voyages Scarlet Lady Tour

Virgin Voyages Scarlet Lady Mid-Construction Ship Tour Video

Having never been to a shipyard to see a ship under construction, being at Fincantieri’s Sestri Ponente shipyard in Genoa was a great thrill for me. I was there to visit ‘Scarlet Lady’, the first ship in the Virgin Voyages fleet, and she really was amazing to see. Although the dry-dock had been flooded, and she was floating, it was deemed too windy to float her out. We were the first group of people, other than shipyard and Virgin Voyages personnel, to get onboard for a tour, to see how well the construction was coming along. I am so grateful for what was an amazing experience. I have had an affinity with the sea ever since I joined the Merchant Navy in 1971, aged just 16, and went to sea as a steward on Union Castle Line’s RMS Pendennis Castle.

At 110,000 gross tonnes, Scarlet Lady will carry 2,770 passengers and 1,160 crew, and is due to enter service in 2020. She will be based in Miami offering a selection of Caribbean cruises, with destinations including Cuba, so take a look at the 2020 Scarlet Lady itineraries. Three sister ships are on order, for delivery in 2021, 2022 and 2023. For more details take a look at my Virgin Voyages page.
