SHIP Information

The ship is beautifully appointed and decorated in the Art Deco style that was modern when the first ship with this name was built. Rich colours, bold geometric shapes and lavish ornamentation characteristic of the Art Deco style. She is the only ship with both a swimming pool and Jacuzzi on deck. A defining feature on the MS Finnmarken is her bow; from deck 5 you can actually go all the way to the tip.

MS Finnmarken has her own on-board Expedition Team, and the ship serves as a university at sea. Interesting lectures inside as well as out on the sun deck of the ship make this an exciting and educational journey. Topics depend on the season and the waters we sail in.

Hurtigruten continues to move boundaries for green technology: Through giant makeovers, three Hurtigruten vessels will be transformed to premium, hybrid powered expedition cruise ships.

With these new expedition cruise vessels, you will be able to explore Norway like never before, with all the comforts, facilities and expertise you need for creating a perfect adventure. Combined with groundbreaking green technology, these ships will truly stand out, Hurtigruten CEO Daniel Skjeldam says.

As they are transformed into full-fledged premium expedition cruise ships, the current MS Finnmarken will be renamed MS Otto Sverdrup in 2021.

Highlights

Hurtigruten ships are working vessels operating a regular service to a set timetable. The ships carry goods, vehicles and passengers between ports, by night and day, as an integral part of Norwegian daily life. The ships are calling at ports around the clock. You may expect some noise and vibration in a few cabins during loading of goods. This varies depending on the location of your cabin and the type of ship. Also, noise affects people differently and what may be a problem for one person may not be a problem for another. Please ask the reservation team for advice on the best cabin location for you.

Dining

Visiting 34 ports, Hurtigruten have an exceptional opportunity to get fresh produce from local suppliers everyday. This means delicious new and fresh ingredients, both from coastal and inland areas.

Based on the season's best ingredients, the chefs create either three-course dinners or lavish buffets. Being a coastal voyage, seafood dominates the menu, accompanied with fresh vegetables and delicately flavoured sauces. Each dinner ends with traditional desserts, like home-made cakes, puddings, berries or sorbet. Breakfast and lunch is served buffet style, while dinner is à la carte.

Enrichment

Enjoy a lecture on the ship's deck or conference rooms and learn something new. You will be joined on the Norwegian coast by expert Expedition Teams, all hand-picked due to their knowledge and experience. They will give lectures and lead activities all designed to enhance your knowledge and understanding of the areas you're sailing in. Learn about the history, cultures and wildlife.

Entertainment

The emphasis onboard is on relaxation and getting away from the commercial entertainment which is so often a part of conventional cruises. The aim is to get closer to unique environments and share the experience with fellow passengers.

As a part of Hurtigruten's seasonal product concepts, they offer some interesting onboard activities, demonstrations and presentations during the voyages. The activities which take place both inside the vessels and outside on deck, have relevance to the season you are sailing in. It is up to the guest to join and the activities will be announced on the day to day programmes or announced on board.

The main source of entertainment during your voyage will be the informative and exciting lectures and activities lead by your experienced onboard Expedition Team, all designed to enhance your trip and increase your understanding of the regions you're travelling in.

Health & Fitness

Keep yourself feeling fresh and active in the Fitness Room or sweating away the day in the sauna.

MS Finnmarken is also the only Hurtigruten ship with both a swimming pool and hot tub on deck

Kid & Teens

There is a playroom available for children.

Useful to Know
Gratuities

It is not common practice to tip on Hurtigruten ships on the coastal voyage, but if you feel that crew members should be rewarded for providing exceptional service, tip boxes are placed in the restaurant together with envelopes.
